Police have confirmed some evidence may have been lost from the scene of Brian Low’s murder on a remote walking path in the Pitilie area near Aberfeldy.

Brian’s body was found on February 17 and a crime scene was not established until four days later, following a medical examination.

It had revealed the 65 year-old’s injuries were consistent with being shot.

Investigators initially concluded the former groundskeeper’s death was “medical related” and “non-suspicious.”

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Macdougall from the Major Investigations Team said: “It’s appreciated that in the timeframe between the Saturday and the Wednesday, something could be lost but we’ve taken every opportunity since to try and recover every item from that area.

“Enquiries are ongoing but there’s nothing to indicate that Brian’s involved in any criminality, and he’s not adversely known to the police.”

Police added they were not going to release details of the weapon involved or confirm if it had been found.

Officers are continuing their investigation, focusing on house to house inquiries and looking at CCTV footage.

Anyone with information can call 101 and quote reference number 0884 of Saturday, 17 February 2024.
