Dundee United's relegation from the Scottish top flight looked certain ahead of their game away to Motherwell, barring a miracle.

To somehow avoid the automatic drop the visitors had to hammer their hosts and hope Kilmarnock did likewise to Ross County - an eight goal swing was required - but that didn't happen.

Utd lost 3-2 at Fir Park so it'll be Championship football for them next season as they drop down to the 2nd-top flight for the 2nd time in seven years. County were beaten 3-1 in Ayrshire.

Jim Goodwin, Utd's 3rd manager this season and who's just signed a two year contract, faces a busy summer as he rebuilds his squad.

Motherwell, meanwhile, end the campaign in 7th place.
