A pair of canine crime fighters have helped sniff out illegal tobacco in Dundee shops.

The four legged duo, Rose and Boo, were part of an intelligence-led operation with Dundee City Council Trading Standards teams.

Five retailers were found to be in possession of illicit tobacco.

Almost 9,000 cigarettes seized

As a result nearly 9,000 cigarettes, 1750g of tobacco and 42 non-compliant, oversized vapes were seized.

The operation in the City of Discovery was part of Operation Cece Scotland. It sees Trading Standards work with HMRC to tackle the illegal tobacco trade.

Trading Standards team praised

Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Councillor Heather Anderson said: “I commend our Trading Standards team for all their work in this area which helps to protect our city’s communities from harm.

“Officers will continue to play a part in preventing illegal tobacco from being sold from local shops.”

Anyone who suspects a premises is selling illegal tobacco is urged to report it to Trading Standards or Consumer Advice Scotland.
