The kitchen at Crieff Primary School is back open after a “chemical leak” scare.

An evacuation of the building was called on September 5, after some workers fell ill earlier that week.

At the time, the school blamed the issue on a fault in the kitchen.

Emergency services also confirmed they had been called to a report of a “potential chemical leak” in the building.

In total, 11 school workers were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment and all were discharged after clinical assessment.

A specialist firm was also contacted to carry out further investigations in the school's kitchen – no faults or causes for concern have yet been identified.

Crieff Primary School reopened on September 9.

In a statement made before the reopening, Sheena Devlin, Strategic Lead for Education and Learning with Perth and Kinross Council, said: “The health and wellbeing of our children and staff is always our priority which is why we took the decision to evacuate Crieff Primary School last week.

“The school was able to re-open on Monday but we kept the kitchen closed while we continued testing kitchen equipment.

“This has shown the kitchen to be in full working order and so it will re-open on Monday.

“Staff from our Property Services team will remain on site next week to respond if any issues do arise and I would like to thank them – and everyone in the school community – for their support.

“I understand situations like this are concerning for everyone involved and would like to reassure parents, carers, staff and pupils that we will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure the wellbeing of those in our schools.”
