Angus rapist jailed for eight years

A man has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment for serious sexual assaults in Arbroath.

John Dutch was arrested and charged following a report of a serious sexual assault of a teenage girl in the Angus town. Officers uncovered additional victims as part of ongoing enquires.

On Thursday, 9th November 2023, John Dutch received his eight year sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Detective Constable Susan Geddes said: “We understand how difficult this has been for Dutch’s victims. Our thoughts remain with them, and I hope this sentencing offers them some comfort as they move forward with their lives.

“I would also like to reassure our communities that we are committed to investigating all reports of physical, emotional and sexual abuse and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.

"I urge anyone who has been the victim of any offence of this nature to contact us where you will be fully supported by our officers and partner agencies.”
