Wiltshire MP Michelle Donelan has revealed she is pregnant.

The Culture Secretary made the announcement on Twitter, saying she and her husband are "very excited and blessed" to be expecting their first child next year.

She's going to take a short maternity leave and will reduce her number of constituency visits during this period.

"I shall still be on hand throughout to help local residents, supported by my great team," Ms Donelan added.

She has been the MP for Chippenham since 2015.

Turbulent 2022

Having held the role of Minister of State for Higher and Further Education since February 2020, Ms Donelan was briefly the Secretary of State for Education.

However, she resigned after less than 36 hours, in the wake of several other resignations in Boris Johnson's cabinet. At the time, the Wiltshire MP said the then Prime Minister had "put us in an impossible position".

On 6 September, Mr Johnson's successor Lizz Truss made Ms Donelan the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Following Ms Truss' dramatic departure from Number 10, the Chippenham MP was retained in the role by the incumbent PM Rishi Sunak.
