Wiltshire's Local Plan sent to Secretary of State
The Council's submitted the document for final sign off
Wiltshire's Local Plan has been sent off to the Secretary of State to be independently examined, and given the final sign off.
The document sets out where housing could be built, the infrastructure needed, which areas should be protected and how the county can grow its employment spaces over the next 14 years.
Once it's approved, it'll become what all planning applications are judged against.
The latest step of the process will make sure the Plan's been prepared with the right legal and procedural credentials.
More than 10,700 comments were made on the proposals during a public consultation, and they've been submitted as well, to be considered by the Planning Inspectorate.
Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:
“We’re delighted to have submitted our Local Plan for examination and I’d like to pay tribute to our officers who have worked so hard to complete this complex and important strategic document.
“This is our most ambitious Local Plan to date. In addition to identifying suitable sites for housing and employment, it introduces bold sustainability policies. All new developments will be required to achieve zero-carbon standards, enhance biodiversity, and include cycling and walking connections.”
