A Trowbridge man has been found guilty of child sex offences dating back to the late 80s.

62 year-old Andrew Austin was found guilty following a trial at Winchester Crown Court in March.

Austin, of The Spinney, Trowbridge was found guilty of multiple counts of rape, indecent assault and child cruelty offences.

In the late 80s to early 90s, Austin sexually abused two young children on multiple occasions.

Today he was sentenced to 18 years in prison - and given a sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offenders register.

Det Con Simon Rogers said: “Austin’s offending was completely abhorrent – these were appalling crimes which the victims continue to carry with them decades later.

“Both victims felt that nobody believed them at the time but I hope that this court result will bring them some form of closure.

“I would like to thank the victims for their bravery in coming forward to the police which enabled us to secure this conviction and ensure this dangerous man is behind bars.”
