A teenager who injured a Wiltshire Police Officer after colliding with him on an electric motorcycle in Swindon has been sentenced.

18 year-old Thierry Holness, from Morris Street, Swindon, had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

It happened on 13 January about 11.20pm at the junction of Faringdon Road with Westcott Place - Holness was given a two year sentence suspended for two years.

Police officers, in a stationary marked vehicle, noticed Holness ride past them in an unsafe manner.

One of the police officers left the car to talk to Holness, who then collided with him, causing serious injuries which required hospital treatment and a significant recovery period.

In addition, he was ordered to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work and up to 35 rehabilitation activity days as well as pay a £41 surcharge.

He was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 30 months and must pass an extended test of competence.

Chief Constable Catherine Roper said: “Wiltshire Police officers are focused on keeping people safe across the county every day. This was a highly concerning incident in which one of our police officers was injured in the course of his duties. This is absolutely unacceptable.

“I hope that this sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate such behaviour and will ensure that anyone responsible faces the full force of the law.”
