Teenager has driving licence revoked after causing collision
The 18-year-old had only recently passed his driving test at the time of the incident in October 2021
An 18-year-old from Swindon has had his driving licence revoked, just a few months after passing his test, after causing a collision with another vehicle in Ashton Keynes.
The teenager was convicted of driving without due care and attention, at a trial at Swindon Magistrates Court.
It happened on the 13th October 2021, when the 18-year-old approached a left-hand bend on the B4696 too fast, causing him to understeer and collide with an oncoming vehicle.
The passenger in the oncoming vehicle, a man in his 20s, suffered serious but not life-changing injuries, and equipment he uses to aid his mobility was also damaged.
The driver in the oncoming vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The teenage driver denied culpability in interview, claiming that the oncoming vehicle had crossed the central white line, and pleaded not guilty at the first hearing in court.
Roads Policing Officer Leigh Mayhew said: "The driver completely denied the offence and tried to apportion the blame on to the other driver."
"Had the vehicle coming from the opposite direction been a motorcycle or a bicycle, we would most certainly have been dealing with a death on the roads"
He was convicted at the subsequent trial, and as a new driver had his licence revoked. He will need to take both parts of the test again.
He's also been fined fined £180, and is required to pay CPS costs of £650, a victim surcharge of £34 and his driving record endorsed by seven points
