Teenager dies in crash near Bushton

Swindon Police have confirmed a teenager has died after a crash near Bushton.

They say it happened at around 9.45pm yesterday evening (Thursday, 29 August).

In a statement, officers said: "A 16-year-old girl has sadly died following a road traffic collision southwest of Bushton yesterday evening (29/08).

"At around 9.45pm, we responded to a single vehicle collision involving a Renault Clio on an unnamed rural road between Bushton and Hilmarton.

"A rear passenger in the vehicle, a 16-year-old girl from Royal Wootton Bassett, was declared dead at the scene.

"Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time.

"The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and has been taken into custody.

"A road closure remains in place at the scene while further enquiries are carried out.

"Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who has dashcam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 684597 quoting log 351 of yesterday’s date.

"Alternatively they can contact the team directly at SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk."
