31st May 1993 ... a day that will be etched into the memory of Swindon Town supporters forever.

Today marks exactly 30 years since the Robins were promoted to the Premier League, after a famous 4-3 against Leicester City in the Division One play-off final at the old Wembley.

Vic Morgan, who's been a Swindon fan since the 1960s, was pitch-side that day. He's spoken exclusively to Greatest Hits Radio.

"It was one of the classic Wembley moments. You had red and white at one end, and blue and white at the other, so there was a wonderful split between the two teams.

"The atmosphere was extraordinary, because Swindon fans went from the highs of ecstasy, to the pits of despair," he said.

Supporters had to suffer that emotional rollercoaster, as Leicester wiped out Swindon's three goal lead during 12 chaotic minutes in the second half.

However with extra time looming, Steve White was fouled by Leicester goalkeeper Kevin Poole. Town defender Paul Bodin duly dispatched the spot-kick with six minutes remaining, sending an estimated 30,000 Swindon fans at the match into delirium.

This time, Glenn Hoddle's side managed to hold on to their lead, clinching the greatest day in the club's history.

'The town was just bedlam, absolute bedlam'

Vic recalls how Town supporters partied well into the night.

"On the M4 bridges, on the way back to Swindon, there were people out there with banners and scarves.

"The town itself at night was just bedlam, absolute bedlam, where people were out celebrating on the streets. That will be never forgotten.

"Will we (Swindon Town) ever see that again? It's a difficult thing to say ... that's the sort of moment if you bottle it and put it in the club shop, it would fly off the shelf," he added.

Sadly, Swindon's time in the top tier of English football was short lived. The Robins were relegated after one season and have never returned.

Despite that, Town bosses have praised the "remarkable success" of that promotion-winning side. In a statement on the club's website marking the 30-year anniversary, they called the team "extraordinary".
