Swindon's Director of Public Health has thanked local residents for their efforts in reducing the borough's COVID-19 infection rate.

Steve Maddern has now confirmed the town's been removed from the Government's watchlist, reflecting the lowering case numbers and infection rate up to the week ending 13 September.

Despite a fall in infections, he's still encouraging people to be careful: "We all need to be very clear that stepping up our efforts was never simply a time-limited exercise just to get Swindon off the Government’s watchlist.

"Things can change very quickly and doing the right thing must now be our ongoing ‘business as usual’.

"COVID-19 will remain a clear and present danger across our community for some time to come, particularly over the winter months, and many other parts of the country have recently seen an increase in the infection rate, requiring local restrictions to be introduced."

Mr Maddern emphasised the importance of taking essential prevention measures and following Government guidance.

He continued: "Please make time to check these frequently asked questions if you’re in any doubt about what you need to do to keep yourself and others safe."
