Swindon shoplifter jailed for multiple thefts
47-year-old Michael McDonagh has been jailed for 47 weeks
A Swindon shoplifter has been jailed for multiple thefts, as well as breaches of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Michael McDonagh, 47, of Spring Close, Swindon, pleaded guilty to four counts of theft and two counts of breaching his CBO.
He was jailed for 47 weeks – 15 weeks for an activated suspended sentence, plus an additional 16 weeks for each breach of his CBO.
The theft charges related to three thefts from Co-Ops across Swindon and one from Tesco Express, while his CBO prohibited him from entering any Co-op in Swindon due to prolifically targeting these stores.
Swindon Central South Inspector David Tippetts said: “McDonagh continues to repeatedly target stores across Swindon, causing significant loss and disruption to those stores.
“He shows a complete disregard for the impact of his offending and he now faces another spell behind bars.
“This sentence shows the effectiveness of McDonagh’s CBO, which has led to him receiving a much longer sentence than he would have.
“We understand that shoplifting has a significant impact on local businesses and our communities and it continues to be a priority for our Neighbourhood Team to bring those perpetrating these offences to justice.”
