Swindon remembers HRH Queen Elizabeth II

The Royal family confirmed the sad news

Tributes have been coming in from across Swindon and the wider Wiltshire region, after Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty the Queen had died at the age of 96.

The Queen was the nation's longest-reigning monarch, and served as head of state for more than 70 years.

Local figures from Swindon and Wiltshire have been paying their respects to Her Majesty.

The North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson has called the Queen a "constant, dedicated and dutiful example" adding that the community will all "feel a very personal loss".

Sir Robert Buckland, the MP who represents Swindon South has shared a message too, where he called Queen Elizabeth "loved and admired across his my South Swindon constituency".

Elsewhere, the MP for Salisbury and South Wiltshire, John Glen says that "never has there been a more selfless champion for Britain around the world".

After the announcement of the news of Her Majesty The Queen's passing, Wiltshire Police say flags across the Wiltshire Police estate will now be flown at half-mast to mark the national period of mourning.

Their Chief Constable, Kier Pritchard shared a statement, saying " I know, like us, our communities will also be feeling incredibly saddened by the passing of our Monarch who has been a source of enduring inspiration throughout her reign".

Philip Wilkinson, who is the Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire shared his condolences.

In a statement, Mr. Wilkinson says that “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II exemplified public service and the news of her death today will be felt keenly across Wiltshire and the entire nation. "

Wiltshire Lieutenancy, which also covers the Lord-Lieutenant for the region shared a message of "thoughts and prayers" to Her Majestey the Queen and her family.

Local councils, hospitals and sport teams have also been expressing their condolences.
