Swindon man sent to prison following thefts

Wiltshire Police said it was pleased to see a prolific shoplifter had been given a custodial sentence by the courts.

A Swindon man has been has been sentenced to 14 weeks imprisonment for multiple thefts across the town.

Darren Stacey, 39, of Carstairs Avenue, pleaded guilty to seven counts of theft at a hearing at Swindon Magistrates Court on June 29.

Stacey was outstanding for multiple thefts, all of which occurred in June, before being arrested, charged and remanded on June 21.

PC Fraser Conway said: "Stacey continued to shoplift across Swindon and showed no intention of stopping until he was caught. I’m pleased to see a prolific shoplifter has been given a custodial sentence by the courts. I know this news will be welcomed by the businesses across Swindon. Officers will continue to work with local shop owners to ensure those that continue to commit crime are identified and dealt with accordingly."
