A man from Swindon has been sentenced to six years and four months in prison, after a hit and run.

Mohammed Shajeed Ali, from Warneford Close in Toothill, pleaded guilty to Grievous Bodily Harm yesterday morning (27/10).

In March, the 20-year-old hit another man outside the Designer Outlet Village in Rodbourne.

He mounted the kerb at a speed witnesses describe as between 40 and 50 miles per hour.

The victim - in his 20s - was hit in the back, sent in the air and fell on the ground unconscious.

After sustaining a serious head injury, he was airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Ali drove off from the scene, officers locating his grey Nissan Juke later that day before tracking him down.

A full recovery has now been made by the victim.

Ali has also been disqualified from driving for two years - he was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court.

'This was a reckless and violent act'

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker said: “Ali’s victim was fortunate not to die from his injuries.

"This was a reckless and violent act which put the lives of innocent members of the public at risk - it was fortunate that no other person was seriously injured as a result of Ali’s actions.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank those at the scene who aided the victim before medical assistance arrived, and subsequently the witnesses who came forward and gave their accounts of what happened to help get this guilty plea".
