A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving in Swindon, as part of an annual police campaign to tackle the issue.

At around midday on Saturday, the Mercedes motorist was stopped by officers on Groundwell Road.

They took action, after being concerned by the driver's state. The 39-year-old was switching between being compliant and aggressive.

A roadside breath test proved negative for alcohol, but a subsequent drugs wipe tested positive for cocaine.

The suspect was taken to Gablecross Police Station, where he was questioned and later released under investigation - pending further enquiries.

The car was also seized by officers.

Wiltshire’s Police’s initiative to crackdown on driving under the influence is going to continue throughout the festive period.

More proactive patrols will be conducted by officers across the county, targeting dangerous motorists.

Police are now urging anyone who knows a repeat offender to call 101.
