Whitbourne House, one of two care homes for the elderly run by Swindon Borough Council will close.

Members of the councils’ Conservative cabinet have agreed a plan put forward by lead member for adults’ Brian Ford to close the home in Park South.

The 32 residents will all be offered spaces in Fessey House in Haydon Wick which is being extended.

The staff will be transferred and the report says it does not envisage redundancies, with vacancies arising when staff move on being reviewed.

Coun Ford said: “The staff at Whitbourne House have done really well to get it to being Good, when it was not before.

“The building is in poor shape, in one room tree roots are coming through the floor, there’s a crack in an outside wall of one you can put your fingers into.”

The closure will save the borough council an estimated £250,000 per year.
