PM Rishi Sunak visits launch of Swindon's newest logistics hub
The new site is predicted to generate 7,000 jobs
The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has visited Swindon's Panattoni Park, a new manufacturing and warehousing facility, located at the former Honda factory.
It's predicted the site will generate 7,000 jobs in Swindon.
Rishi Sunak met with construction staff and Panattoni employees on Monday morning (4th March) for the facility's "ground-breaking".
"It's fantastic to be in Swindon," he said, "what we're able to celebrate is one of the largest investments in the South that's going to create thousands and thousands of jobs.
"Given the scale of the site, what you can look forward to isn't just logistics jobs - important as that is, by the way, because it's the wiring of our economy - but also because the site is very well connected - road and rail - it means it's going to attract office jobs, manufacturing jobs as well - that's what's so exciting.
"The economy has been through a tough couple of years but I believe we have turned a corner.
"It's a huge vote of confidence not just in the UK economy but in the local area in particular."
The visit comes on the same day the government's pledged £360 million of support for manufacturing in the automotive, aerospace and life sciences sectors.
