Queen Camilla visits Lacock school celebrating 200th anniversary
Camilla joined school children in classes
Queen Camilla has visited a Wiltshire primary school today (11/7) to mark it's 200th anniversary.
She's been to Lacock primary school, in the village where she grew up, taking part in poetry activities and an art class.
Caroline Jackson is the school's headteacher and says they weren't confident of a visit when they sent a letter to Buckingham Palace inviting the Queen to visit.
She said:"We worked our hardest to try and talk about, you know, the importance of the school and the fact that not many schools are 200 years old, and even less are in the same building that they when they were started.
Caroline added: "We thought that we might push it over the edge by being a little bit special and the proximity to where she lives. We knew we were a little bit special."
But when the palace replied, there wasn't any guarantee Camilla would be able to visit.
However, a little while later, palace officials confirmed her appearance and set about arranging a date.
"We've only known about five months that Camilla would visit," Caroline said, adding that the school only told the children on Monday.
She said the children have very excited this week and said it's a day they'll remember forever.
"I think some of them don't necessarily understand the momentous occasion. I think some of them are going 'ohh, it's the queen', but obviously the adults, we're all thinking it's a really special event."
