Police urging people to 'ride responsibly' ahead of Calne Bike Meet
They say patrols will be in the area on the day - with their message not to spoil it for yourself or others
Wiltshire Police have issued a warning to anyone thinking of using this weekend's Calne Bike Meet as an excuse to speed on our region's roads.
They say the 'vast majority' of riders do so responsibly - but there's 'always a very small number' who ruin it for the others.
Patrols will be in the area on the day of the event.
In a statement, PCSO Mark Cook said: "Calne welcomes back the Calne Bike Meet on Saturday.
"Whilst we understand the vast majority of riders attending this event will be well behaved and ride responsibly. There unfortunately will always be a very small number of riders who may see the day as an opportunity to greatly exceed the speed limits on our roads.
"On previous years we have received a number of complaints from residents along the A4 and A3102 routes. If you are attending the event, please ride responsibly.
"If you wish to ride fast, do it safely and visit a local racetrack.
"Police patrols will be in the area on the day. Please don’t spoil the day for yourself or others.
"Please respect the event organisers and marshals, without them giving up their spare time this event could not take place.
"Calne CCTV operators will also be monitoring the town centre to ensure the day runs smoothly and safely.
"Please park your vehicle as appropriately as possible. Please do not park near the Calne Fire station entrance as this is an emergency service route.
"Please also be mindful that emergency services may need to attend an emergency on the day so allow them room to pass safety through the town.
"Look out for each other, ride safe and enjoy the day."
