It has been confirmed that a fire in Penhill over the weekend, which led to a man's death, is not currently being treated as suspicious.

That is according to Wiltshire Police. However, the Force has told Greatest Hits Radio that investigations into the incident, on Sunday 5 September, are still "ongoing".

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2:21am, after the blaze broke out at a mid-terraced property on Everleigh Road.

Fire crews from Stratton, Swindon, Westlea, Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough, Ramsbury and Cirencester all attended.

The fire, which had spread to the ground floor and first floor of the address, took around six hours to fully extinguish.

'Our thoughts are with his family and friends'

“Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control but, sadly, the occupant of the house, a man in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time," a Wiltshire Police spokesman said.

The cause of the incident is not yet known.
