Anyone who saw a fire at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway, which officers believe was started deliberately, are being urged to contact police.

Flames were spotted on the site on Tadpole Lane at around 5:50 BST, on Monday 6 June.

Police and fire crews were immediately called to the scene, but the recently refurbished carriage was destroyed.

A second carriage had also been broken into, with signs of vandalism.

According to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, the blaze was fully extinguished by 7:44 BST. Crews from Stratton, Cricklade and Swindon attended the incident.

Wiltshire Police says the fire probably started at some point overnight, into Monday 6 June.

'This incident will cause some upset and frustration'

PC Ashlee Scown, from the local Community Policing Team, said: “We know that this incident will cause some upset and frustration amongst the local community, and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“If you saw anything suspicious between 6pm on Sunday evening (06/06) and 5.50am on Monday morning (07/06) then please let us know".
