Police have revealed they believe an assault in Swindon's Old Town, which officers have called "violent" and "serious," involved a bladed weapon.

A man suffered potentially life-changing injuries, after the attack in The Planks yesterday afternoon.

At around 5pm, police were called to the scene, finding the 21-year-old with a severe hand injury.

He was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for urgent treatment, but no arrests have made made at this stage.

'Our enquiries suggest the attack was carried out by a group'

Detective Sergeant Emma Kinderman, from Swindon CID, said: "This was a violent assault which has left the victim with significant injuries.

"Our early enquiries suggest that the attack was carried out by a group of people, and we believe they used some sort of bladed weapon. We don’t believe this was a random assault, but more likely to have been a targeted attack involving people who are known to each other".

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and are now urging any witnesses, including those with CCTV or dash cam footage, to call Swindon CID on 101, quoting crime reference 54220067339.
