The UK's vaccination programme against COVID-19 has reached a major anniversary.

Today marks exactly a year since the first person in the world received a Coronavirus jab, outside of clinical trials.

Margaret Keenan made headlines across the globe on December 8 2020, when she was administered her first dose at the University Hospital in Coventry.

The then 90-year-old grandmother received a Pfizer vaccine.

The following day, Great Western Hospital joined the jab roll-out. Alex Hale was its first patient to be given a COVID vaccine.

At the time, the 86-year-old told Greatest Hits Radio: "I was just glad to have it!

"The reaction to the actual injection, I can't feel anything at the moment. Just a slight prick when it went in, but that's all.

"Other than that, I'm fine".

More than three quarters of eligible residents across the Swindon borough have since received at least two Coronavirus jabs.

The majority of these have been given at the STEAM Museum. During the height of the vaccine programme, an estimated 1,200 COVID doses were administered there every day.

Swindon Borough Council is now urging anyone eligible for a booster jab to book their appointment.
