Northgate Street in Devizes is finally back open - more than five weeks after a blaze destroyed a kebab shop.

One-way traffic's flowing again following the 'awful' incident - but if you're wanting to go southbound, it's expected to remain shut for some time yet.

More than £8,000 has been raised for the victims so far.

Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said We're pleased to be able to reopen Northgate Street to one-way traffic following the awful fire that caused significant damage to some properties on the road.

Unfortunately, it is not safe to fully reopen the road yet, but we felt this was the best compromise to help minimise disruption and keep traffic flowing as much as we can.

Given the significant damage to properties and the potential danger to the public, we would expect the road to be closed to southbound vehicles for many months while the process of the owners working with their insurance companies progresses.
