Man dies after being struck by vehicle on M4

A man has died after he was struck by a vehicle on the M4 between Swindon and Hungerford.

Thames Valley Police says a man in his 80s, who is believed to have been earlier driving a grey Hyundai Iconic, crossed the eastbound carriageway on Sunday evening (07/01) and was hit by a vehicle.

The man died from his injuries and the motorway was closed in both directions for more than 12 hours to allow for recovery and investigation work.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident.

Investigating officer Sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said:

“We are investigating this collision in which a man has tragically died.

“Our condolences and thoughts are with their loved ones. The man’s next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or witness information to please come forward, calling 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 432400009724.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we conducted our enquiries.”
