Man dies after being hit by motorbike at British Motocross Championships near Swindon

A man in his 50s has died after being hit by a motorbike at the British Motocross Championships at Foxhill near Swindon.

It happened yesterday around 2.50pm.

Police were called following an incident involving a motorcyclist and two members of the public during a race.

It is thought the rider lost control of his motorcycle which left the track, sadly killing a man in his 50s.

Police say his next of kin have been informed.

A second man, aged in his 60s, has been taken to hospital with a serious injury.

In a statement, Foxhill MXGB said: "Following the incident at the historic Foxhill Motocross Circuit on Sunday 14th May 2023, the Organisers, Langrish MX Club, are saddened to announce the death of Simon Mitchell, a gentleman well known within the motocross community.

"A second person who was also injured in the incident, an official at the event, was released from hospital on the evening of the 14.05.23 with bruising.

"The thoughts and condolences of everyone concerned are with Simon's family and friends at this time."
