Man arrested after reportedly shouting racist abuse outside Swindon mosque

A man has been arrested after he is reported to have been shouting racist abuse outside a mosque in Swindon.

An appeal for witnesses has been launched by police following the incident of racially aggravated public order yesterday evening (July 27).

It happened at around 20:30 in Broad Street, New Town, according to police.

A statement from the force added: "We are appealing for witnesses following an incident of racially aggravated public order in Swindon yesterday evening (27/07).

"At around 8.30pm in Broad Street, New Town, a man was seen outside a mosque shouting racist abuse.

"Upon officers’ arrival, the suspect was identified by members of the public and arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, outraging public decency and racially aggravated section 4a public order.

"He remains in custody for questioning.

"We understand there were several members of the public around at the time and we are appealing for them to come forward to help us with our enquiries.
