A man's been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences after a police pursuit in Swindon in the early hours of this morning.

Officers spotted a car with fake number plates just before 11pm last night - but the car failed to stop for officers and made off towards Cirencester.

A 30-year-old man from Abingdon was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving with no insurance and for driving while under the influence of drugs. He has been released while further enquiries continue.

Sgt Will Ayres said: “It is extremely fortunate that nobody was injured – the standard of driving during the pursuit was extremely dangerous. The vehicle was driven at speeds in excess of 100 mph, with several drivers having to take evading action to avoid a collision.

“This arrest was a result of excellent team-work by Roads Policing Officers, Gloucestershire Police and the police dog unit who helped to track down the driver.”
