Light aircraft crash at Cotswold Airport

Two people have been taken to hospital after a light aircraft crashed at Cotswold Airport.

The plane overshot the runway at the airfield this morning - the pilot and a passenger were taken to hospital.

The A429 near Kemble has been closed in both directions by police.

Wiltshire Police say at this stage no-one is believed to be seriously injured.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: "Shortly after 10.30am today (04/08) we responded to reports of a light aircraft which appeared to have overshot the runway at Cotswold Airport, ending up in a ditch beside the A429.

"There were no reported deaths or serious injuries. The pilot and a passenger have been taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed."

In a statement, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire service said: "We were called to the A429, Kemble at 10.41am this morning. One of our crews from Stratton along with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Cirencester and Tetbury attended the incident which involved a light aircraft which had overshot the runway. Two casualties had self-rescued prior to FRS arrival and are in the care of ambulance crews"

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 10.38hrs to an incident involving a light aircraft in the Kemble area. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, a rapid response vehicle, a critical care car and an air ambulance. We have conveyed one patient to Great Western Hospital and one patient to Gloucester Royal Hospital, both by land ambulance.”
