Knife amnesty bin unveiled by Swindon charity
18-year-old Owen Dunn was killed in Swindon in December 2022
A charity set up in the wake of a Swindon teenager's death to knife crime has installed a knife amnesty bin in the town.
Owen's World, created by the family of Owen Dunn, has unveiled the bin at John Moulton Hall.
Two teenagers were found guilty of Owen's murder earlier this year, after the 18-year-old was stabbed with a machete on 4th December 2022.
Tyler Hunt, 18, of Park South, and a 15-year-old boy who can’t be named for legal reasons, were sentenced to 19 and 12 years in prison respectively.
In a post on the foundation's Facebook page, Owen's World have made an open invitation to the community to support the bins unveiling, from 9:30am this morning (10th July).
The new mayor of Swindon, Cllr Imtiyaz Shaikh, was expected to attend.
The charity said: "This is a big step for Owen’s World, and from the feedback we have received we really feel we are starting to make a difference."
One of the groups aims is to improve services offered to young people to stop them using knives.
