John McGreal has been confirmed as the new manager of Swindon Town.
After being appointed on a two-year deal, the 48 year-old said he's "absolutely delighted" to bag the role.
“It’s Swindon Town! That alone makes you want to apply for the job ... I’m happy to get my hands on it.
"There’s a lot of work to be done, a lot of players we need to bring in and I’m looking forward to that challenge," he added.
Supporters at the County Ground hope that McGreal can push for promotion next season, after The Robins were relegated to League Two in the 2020/21 campaign.
The new boss has spoken of his desire to "get the Club back to where it should be".
In his playing career, McGreal appeared for Tranmere Rovers, Ipswich Town and Burnley.
He then moved into coaching and management, taking the helm at Colchester United between 2016 and 2020.
'The Club needs some positivity at the moment'
In a statement, Town said several strong candidates applied for the job.
Director of football, Paul Jewell, added: “We wanted someone who was hungry and here to prove a point. The Club needs some positivity at the moment and I’m sure John will bring that.
"John has the experience at this level, he’s young and he’s got good ideas and hopefully he can be an appointment that has a positive effect on us".
