Swindon Town say they are "delighted" to appoint Jody Morris as the Club's new Head Coach.

The 44-year-old, who has penned a two-and-a-half year deal, holds a distinguished CV. He's previously been Frank Lampard's assistant manager at Chelsea and Derby County, following a playing career that featured spells at Chelsea, Leeds United and Bristol City.

The announcement comes after Scott Lindsey left the County Ground earlier this month, to take charge at Crawley Town.

How will fans react to the announcement?

Morris' appointment has been widely speculated in recent days, with those reports being warmly welcomed by many Town supporters.

As well as having Premier League experience, Morris is well renowned for encouraging players to express themselves with an attacking, possession-based style of play.

Fans can therefore expect an exciting brand of football to emerge in the months ahead.

Town Technical Director, Sandro Di Michele, said: “To get a Head Coach with Jody’s calibre is a real statement of intent from us.

"He’s worked at the very top level, so to have someone with that calibre and experience here creates an incredible opportunity for us.

“He’s highly skilled in developing some of the very best young talent in the country, which is integral to our strategy and what we are trying to achieve".

What will Morris want to achieve during his reign?

His immediate priority will be securing promotion back to League One.

The Robins were relegated in the 2020/21 campaign, amid widespread uncertainty surrounding the Club's ownership.

Many supporters expected last season to be a struggle. However, following Clem Morfuni's takeover, Town managed to finish in the League Two play-off places. They subsequently lost to Port Vale on penalties in the semi-final.

Morris will want to stamp his authority at the County Ground

Despite some mixed results this season, the Robins currently sit sixth in League Two. So promotion is still well within their grasp.

Should Morris achieve that, it's likely he will be sought after by other clubs - possibly those in the Championship.

For now, Town fans can enjoy the ride, as a man with distinguished credentials takes the helm at SN1.

Upon finalising his move, Morris said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Swindon Town as First-Team Head Coach. This is a great opportunity at a wonderful football club that is steeped in history, and I can’t wait to get started.

"My footballing philosophy is completely aligned with that of the club, and upon meeting Sandro, I was presented with a strategy and vision that I’m really keen to be a part of.

“I’m extremely proud to be leading such a forward-thinking club, with an owner and technical director that are passionate and committed to bringing success here.

“We want to take this incredible fanbase on a long and successful journey".

His reign gets underway at Newport County on Saturday 4 February.
