Hundreds of people have already paid a visit to Museum and Art Swindon - following its reopening after a four year wait because of the pandemic.

Swindon council say more than 550 have come along in its first week.

The new home in the Civic Offices is 40 per cent bigger than where it used to be over at Apsley House.

On social media, Swindon Borough Council said: "It’s great to see people enjoying the new venue and the family activities that were taking place over the weekend.

"If you’ve not yet been, why not visit this week? Museum & Art Swindon is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 4.30pm at the Civic Offices on Euclid Street. And it’s free!

"On display is one of the museum’s famous Lowry paintings, as well as a perfume bottle created by Sir Grayson Perry. The history of Swindon is showcased through diverse material ranging from one of Swindon’s earliest inhabitants - the fossil remains of the Welcombe Avenue Ichthyosaur from around 155 million years ago - to the more recent examples of Swindon's history including empty vials from the COVID-19 Vaccination Centre at STEAM.

"The new home at Euclid Street is 40 per cent bigger than the previous one at Apsley House allowing it to better showcase one of the country’s best collections of modern and contemporary 20th Century British art.

"It also provides improved working conditions and additional areas for staff, volunteers and researchers, presenting an opportunity to restart the museum and art gallery’s volunteer programme."
