High-value jewellery including 200-year-old locket stolen from elderly woman's Swindon home

Sentimental jewellery, including a 200-year-old locket belonging to an elderly woman's grandmother, has been stolen from her Swindon home.

The burglary took place in the Gorse Hill area between 13:45 and 20:45 GMT on Wednesday 4 November, near the Lidl supermarket.

The victim was out seeing see a friend at the time.

Another locket, containing some hair from her dead husband, was also stolen.

The other items burgled include a large ruby and diamond ring, diamond engagement ring and two gold wedding rings.

Officers believe the victim's property was targeted.

'A bitter pill to swallow'

PC William Saunders, from Swindon's Community Policing Team, said: "Burglaries like this are very emotional for the victim.

"The loss of sentimental, valuable, items - some hundreds of years old and irreplaceable - is a bitter pill to swallow and we would love to reunite them with their owner, alongside bringing the perpetrators to justice".

Anyone with information, or relevant dash-cam footage, is now being urged to call police on 101.
