Towns and villages across Wiltshire will be marking the 80th anniversary tonight by lighting a beacon to commemorate the Normandy landings.

There are some 14 locations lighting a beacon at quarter past nine this evening.

Collingbourne Kingston's Barleycorn Inn, Fonthill Estate, Marlborough Town Council, Devizes Town Council and Latton Parish Council will all be taking part.

80 years ago this morning, tens of thousands of allied troops were landing on five Normandy beaches in Northern France. It was the largest seaborne invasion in military history and is seen as key to the allied victory in World War Two.
