Former Robins manager praises Holloway for club’s mid-table position
Glenn Hoddle was a player-manager at Swindon Town from 1991 to 1993
Ex-Swindon Town manager Glenn Hoddle has praised Ian Holloway for getting the Robins out of relegation this season.
While Swindon had just hit the bottom of the League Two table when they last played today’s opponent Fleetwood, the two teams are only two places apart now, coming in at 12 and 14 respectively.
Their last match-up, which was at the County Ground in December, ended in a 3-1 victory for the Robins.
Glenn Hoddle told Greatest Hits Radio: “I always keep an eye on their results. It’s been a really testing time for them. They looked like they could be going down and that would’ve been very, very sad.
“But Ian has done a fabulous job and they look like they’ve got a nice cushion now. They should see of the rest of the season and remain in the league, which is wonderful news for the fans and everyone at the club.
“I would’ve hated to see them go out of the league”.
When current Robins manager Ian Holloway took over at the County Club, Swindon Town were sitting just outside the relegation zone in 22nd place and only two points away from the bottom of League Two.
Now, the team is comfortably in mid-table with 15 points between them and Morecambe, who are currently placing 23rd.
If Swindon better Morecambe’s result today, the Robins would secure another season in League Two.
Manager Ian Holloway said about Fleetwood: “They had all sorts of trouble when Charlie came down here, they had a bad run and now their better players are back.
“I know that area very well, just down the road from Blackpool, hopefully we will see those sights as we drive up there.
“The Cod Army, they call themselves, I prefer haddock”.
Holloway also recently announced that he has renewed his contract and will remain in Swindon until the end of the 2027/28 season.
