Four men have been arrested after a firearm was found in Swindon.

Police were called to Toothill around 2.30pm yesterday.

Three men were seen acting suspiciously and made off from police - and a firearm was later found. The men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

A fourth man was later arrested in the town centre on suspicion of the same offence. All the men remain in police custody for questioning.

DI Rachel Hardy of Swindon CID said: “Following excellent work by our Swindon officers, four men are in custody after a firearm was located.

“These men are in custody and officers are continuing to question them.

“I’d like to reassure the public that there have been no reported injuries and at no point was there a threat to the public.

“We will maintain an increased presence in the local area while officers carry out their enquiries and residents are likely to see more high visibility patrols.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact officers on 101.
