50 firefighters attend large fire in Swindon's Old Town

Firefighters were working well into the night to extinguish the blaze

Fifty firefighters attended a large fire in Swindon's Old town at around 7pm yesterday evening (Wednesday 8th May).

Ten fire engines were sent to Anytime Fitness studio and crews fought the blaze into the night.

At around 9pm, the fire was extinguished.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and rescue posted this update at 12:27am on Thursday morning:

"Firefighters have left the scene. The area has been cordoned off by the local authority.

"Firefighters will return at 8.15am to reinspect and check for hotspots. A fire investigation is now underway."

Emergency services are now working with Wiltshire Police to find the cause of the fire.
