Final decision on County Ground sale set for March
The Borough Council could be selling Swindon Town's stadium
Last updated 15th Mar 2022
It has been revealed a final decision regarding the sale of Swindon Town's County Ground is less than two months away.
The stadium, which has been the subject of widespread speculation over recent years, is currently owned by Swindon Borough Council.
However, the Council's Cabinet is set to meet, confirming whether the County Ground can be sold to a joint venture company of Swindon Town and the Swindon Town Supporters' Trust.
There will be no majority shareholder, with the transaction instead leading to a 50/50 joint venture between the Club and the Trust.
Swindon Borough Council's leader, Councillor David Renard, will head the meeting on 16 March.
Dale Heenan, a former member of the Council's Conservative Cabinet, has given his reaction to the announcement:
2021-22 season so far...
The update follows a return of the feel-good factor to the County Ground in recent months.
Relegation from League One last season led to Clem Morfuni's takeover of the Club in July 2021.
A raft of new personnel subsequently came through the door, both on and off the pitch. Head Coach Ben Garner, Chief Executive Rob Angus and Director of Football Ben Chorley were all appointed in rapid succession.
A positive first half of the 2021-22 campaign for The Robins included a FA Cup run, which concluded against Manchester City earlier this month.
Garner's side currently sit sixth in League Two, with high hopes of being promoted back to League One at the first time of asking.
