The family of a young man, who was stabbed to death in North Swindon, have thanked the community for their support.

Owen Dunn was attacked on Mazurek Way, Haydon End, at around 13:30 GMT on Sunday.

The incident has shocked local residents, with many subsequently arriving at the crime scene to pay their respects and lay flowers.

An online fundraising page has also been opened, to help Owen's loved ones with funeral costs.

The 18-year-old's family have now released a short statement, saying: "We are grateful for all the support, kind words and donations we have received".

Eye witnesses who were on Mazurek Way at the time say they saw two males wearing black, including balaclavas, and carrying large knives. They reportedly left the scene on bikes.

Two males have since been arrested suspicion of murder. A 20-year-old man has been released under investigation, whilst detectives are continuing to question a 14-year-old boy.

Wiltshire Police's ability to tackle knife crime is now under heavy scrutiny. This incident comes just weeks after another stabbing in Swindon, where a teenage boy was seriously injured.

The Force says it will now address the issue "proactively" and has responded to Owen's death by having more officers visibly on patrol across Swindon.

Anyone with information about the Haydon End attack is now being urged to call 101, quoting Operation Glendale.
