Southern Electricity Network apologises for power cuts in Swindon

The company says 30,000 people were left without power for a short period.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has apologised, after power cuts left reportedly thousands without electricity on Saturday (1st February) in and around Swindon.

Areas of north and west Swindon were affected, including; Calne, Haydon Wick, Peatmoor, Rodbourne, Royal Wootton Bassett and Winterbourne Bassett.

All residents were reconnected by around midday.

The company says around 30,000 customers were affected, but clarified that many would have been automatically reconnected within a few minutes.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said: "We were alerted to a network fault in the Swindon area at 11:53; power was restored in stages with all customers reconnected 12:13.

"We'd like to apologise to customers who were affected by the interruption and thank them for their patience as we worked to restore supplies.

"Investigations into the root cause are now under way."
