Eight arrests after teenager attacked at Swindon school

It happened as parents were taking their children home from lessons

Eight males have been arrested in connection with an attack on a schoolboy outside a school in Swindon.

It took place near St Joseph's Catholic College at around 3.15pm on Tuesday (March 12th).

Wiltshire Police said the 14-year-old was taken to hospital with injuries which were not life-threatening.

Those arrested, aged between 12 and 18, have been questioned on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Six have since been released on conditional bail, pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Phillippa Sharpley said:

"This attack on one person by a group, some of whom were carrying weapons, is extremely concerning and will not be tolerated.

"Our thoughts are very much with the victim, who required hospital treatment.

"For this to have taken place outside a school, as children were leaving with their parents, is sure to have caused a great deal of concern in the community, however this is being dealt with robustly and with the full force of the law.

"If you witnessed what took place or are aware of any mobile phone footage of the incident then please contact us as a matter of urgency."
