Drug driver banned from the roads for two years following M4 stop

A drug driver who was stopped by police on the motorway has been banned from the road for two years.
Jamie Lee Sharpe, 32, of Middle Park Way in Havant, was pulled over while driving his BMW on the eastbound carriageway of the M4 near Badbury on the afternoon of 7 November 2021.
The officer conducted a drug wipe on Sharpe, which tested positive for cannabis.
He pleaded guilty to drug driving and appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Wednesday (18/05) for sentencing.
Sharpe was disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay a £120 fine. He also had to pay court costs and a victim surcharge.
Arresting officer PC Paul Brewster, from Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “We all know that driving while under the influence of drink and drugs means you are posing a very real risk to both yourself and other road users.
“This type of offence is classed as one of the fatal four, meaning that it is one of the main causes of serious injury or fatal road traffic collisions, and we work very hard to both educate motorists about these avoidable risks and also apprehend and arrest offenders.”
