Devizes fire: road to remain closed for 'up to 21 days'
Fire crews will be returning to the scene today
It's been confirmed the A360 Northgate Street in Devizes could be closed until early December after major blaze in the early hours of yesterday morning.
It's reported to have taken place at a kebab shop - before spreading to the rooves of nearby buildings in the row of terraced properties.
Around 40 crew members were rushed out to the scene early yesterday morning - with dramatic scenes on social media showing fire billowing out of the shop.
The closure between The Market Place and Wadworth Roundabout will be in place to make sure the property is made safe - with the decision being made by the local authority to do this.
Local Cllr Iain Wallis said: "Road Closure - A360 Northgate Street between The Market Place and Wadworth Roundabout.
"This road will now be closed for up to 21 days whilst the fire incident is dealt with and the property is made safe. Currently it is not possible to open Station Road as there are active water works but Wiltshire Council are maintaining contact in case the situation changes.
"Traffic on New Park Street is likely to be heavier than usual so please steer clear if you can. Details of all current and future closures on one.network"
You're reminded that all local businesses will remain open and all the car parks around town are open and accessible.
Access to the Market Place is only possible from the Southgate roundabout and down Long St. in to the Market Place.
In an update sent to us this morning, bosses at the Fire Service confirmed that although they have now left the scene, they will be back today for a re-inspection of the building.
We don't yet know the full cause of the incident, but we're told it's believed to have been started accidentally - however, investigations are still ongoing.
