Date set for vote on major plans for new leisure centre
The date has been set for plans of a brand-new leisure centre estimated to cost around £25m to go before a planning committee.
Wiltshire Council’s strategic planning committee will discuss the new Trowbridge Leisure Centre project at its next meeting on Wednesday, December 11.
The building would be constructed at the council’s East Wing site and, according to the council, would “improve the health and wellbeing of local residents with top class facilities while having a wider positive economic impact on the county town”.
If approved, Trowbridge’s new leisure centre would have facilities such as a six-lane 25m swimming pool, a smaller learner pool, and a gym with 120 exercise stations.
An immersive spin studio and a café are also included in the project proposal.
Trowbridge Civic Society is the only third party to have formally objected to the plans, with concerns that the development would detract rather than enhance the overall contribution to Trowbridge.
The case officer report that will be presented to committee members reads: “The proposed development would not harm neighbouring properties or the amenities thereof and subject to a range of planning conditions, the heritage, highway, drainage, ecological and environmental considerations and mitigation measures, the application is hereby recommended for permission.”
