Concerns Wiltshire children will go hungry over Easter
Salisbury Foodbank's been getting a lot of calls from concerned parents
Salisbury Foodbank has told us it's already fed over 2,000 people in 2024 and is braced to feed more hungry mouths over Easter.
And the foodbank's told us that concerned parents have been calling them for the last two weeks, worried that they'll be unable to feed their children during the break from school.
There's a good supply of pasta and cereal at the Ashfield Road warehouse, but many other items that many of us might take for granted are in shortening supply, with some shelves starting to look a bit bare.
However, the staff and volunteers at the foodbank are working hard to make sure no one goes hungry.
"I've been placing large food orders to try and fill those gaps, before those gaps become an issue," Manager Maria Stevenson told Greatest Hits Radio.
She added: "I'm placing orders online and hopefully we'll have those delivered to make sure we are not short in any of the core items."
Those core items include fish, meat meals, soups, tinned tomatoes and long-life milk.
In February, there were 64 new referrals made to the Foodbank, as the trend of people turning to a foodbank for the first time continues.
And even though they're part of the 2,000 already fed this year, Maria's not calling that success.
"Success for me isn't feeding a thousand people, success for me is feeding everyone who needs to be fed and making sure nobody is going hungry," she said.
