Tributes pour in for 'beloved' Cirencester College Principal after sudden death
The college has issued a statement following the death of their Head, Jim Grant
Cirencester College has described principal Jim Grant as 'a beloved backbone of our community' after announcing his passing last weekend.
Jim Grant worked at the college for more than thirty years, starting out as a history and archaeology lecturer in 1991.
He continued to progress as the head of faculty, assistant principal and finally principal in 2017. The college say his work stretched further to "friend, coach and mentor."
Alongside his work in education, he published several course books on archaeology.
Mr Grant lead redevelopments on campus, with a particular focus on technical qualifications, known as T-Levels, collaborating with local businesses to build practical work place skills.
"Jim was a champion for our college, and for the nation's sixth form sector in general" said Cirencester College in their statement.
"He has left a legacy of innovative curriculum development from which many students will benefit."
The Cirencester Chamber of Commerce took to social media to pay tribute : "Jim was an important figure in the town and its community and will be sorely missed."
Staff, students and friends paid their respects on the college's Facebook post.
One comment read: "Utterly heartbroken at the passing. What an amazing man and force to be reckoned with."
"A quality man with an infectious love for archaeology who inspired so many" said another, "I will remember the many laughs."
The Chair of Governors, Peter Holmes, has spoken on behalf of the college.
"Jim will be missed by a great number of people who have worked with him now and over the many years he has given to Cirencester College and its community", he said.
"The governors and the management team are united in their wish to ensure his legacy continues to grow and thrive."
